Food Insecurity

During fall break of the 2022-23 school year, ABP conducted a trip to New York, NY focused on ending food insecurity in the United States. Trip participants volunteered in collaboration with the nonprofit Hunger Free America, canvassing various boroughs within New York City, working directly with clients battling food insecurity, and more!

Nonprofits for Food Insecurity

Crimson Cupboard Food Pantry

About: This organization directly provides free, healthy food to students at Indiana University - Bloomington who struggle with food insecurity. Students can visit the pantry once a week without disclosing their finances.

How To Get Involved: Students can volunteer, set up direct food donations, or organize food drives by emailing cupboard@indiana.edu. Monetary donations can be made by emailing the same address or by clicking the “Give Now” button on the Crimson Cupboard Food Pantry website.

Hoosier Hills Food Bank

About: This food bank serves 7 Indiana counties, including Monroe county, distributing over 4 million pounds of food annually to nonprofit organizations helping food-insecure populations.

How To Get Involved: Opportunities include working in the community garden, assisting in food distribution, packing food boxes for seniors, and preparing mailings. About: This organization supports partner organizations fighting food insecurity across the state, conducts research, advocates for policy changes, and raises public awareness.
