Founded in 2000, Beacon Inc has grown to be the largest housing provider of any nonprofit in Monroe County. Beacon provides housing, day and overnight shelter, hunger relief, social services, financial support, life essentials (like laundry, showers, and mail), and other related health and human services to hundreds of people each day and thousands of people each year. Forest Gilmore, the Executive Director, will be coming to speak in Professor Eskew’s class on Wednesday, September 28th from 11:30 -12:45 PM and she is opening the class to welcome ABP members to join.
Ninety-six percent of their guests have incomes at or below 30% of the area median income (AMI), which is considered extreme poverty.
Sixty percent of our guests are women and children.
Eleven percent are veterans.
